MNet is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Communications Officer. The incumbent will coordinate, develop and implement internal and external communications with the media, public, government, staff, sponsors, and MNet’s Board of Directors. The successful candidate will have a university degree or college diploma in communication and at least three years experience, supported by outstanding strategic, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills, and will be fluently bilingual. (English/French).
Responsibilities include:
Under the overall management of the Co-Executive Director:
- Provide leadership and promotion of MNet’s mission and objectives.
- Manage existing media relations initiatives, and ongoing media opportunities.
- Ensure support to the Co-Executive Directors, Staff, Board members, and Partners with regard to messaging and positioning for media interviews.
- Manage MNet’s contact database.
- Manage the design and production of communication materials and services.
- Develop communication plans that support the organization’s strategic priorities, and direct their implementation at the national and/or regional levels.
- Draft position papers, briefing materials, speeches and presentations, and provide writing and editing support to the Co-Executive Directors and Chair of the Board of Directors.
- Represent the organization at public meetings, working groups and committees.
- Manage copyright requests.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Superior English writing skills.
- Strong comprehension, reading, and oral French capacity.
- An undergraduate degree or diploma from a recognized university or college in Communications, Public Relations, or Journalism.
- Experience as follows:
- developing and implementing communication plans;
- providing communications advice and support to senior officials and/or heads of organizations;
- managing media relations initiatives and media opportunities;
- 3+ years experience in communications/public relations;
- managing and maintaining Excel databases;
- marketing and creation of marketing materials an asset.
Hours of Work / Compensation
37.5 hours per week
$45,000 to $50,000 per annum
