Prince Edward Island Outcome Chart: Communication and Information Technology Literacy K-3

In the working guide Journey On: Working Toward Communication and Information Technology Literacy, media-related outcomes are integrated throughout the CIT curriculum.

Knowledge

Demonstrate an understanding of the use of communication and information technology and the impact that this area of technology has upon society

It is expected that by Grade 3, students will:

A1 identify technologies that are found in everyday life.

A2 recognize that different technologies are used for specific tasks.

A4 explore social and cultural diversity through the use of technological learning resources such as the Internet, CD-ROMs and other software.

A5 begin to develop an awareness of the moral and ethical issues that surround technology.

A5.2 respect the privacy of electronic files, and e-mail.

Access, evaluate, and select information using technology

It is expected that by Grade 3, students will:

C4 understand Internet terminology; Internet, Web page, site address (URL), bookmarks, text, text links, graphics, image links.

C5 navigate a Web page.

C6 recognize and use (with direction) the Internet as a source of information.

C6.1 use Web pages predetermined by the teachers to select information that answers student generated questions.

C6.2 evaluate Web page.

C6.3 compare and contrast similar information found using a source other than the Internet.

C6.4 cite a Web page as source of information.

Use technology to communicate information appropriately

It is expected that by Grade 3, students will:

F1 explore e-mail as a means of communicating information.

F1.1 students will send and receive e-mail as an individual or as a class.
