"Responsible for showing Canada to Canadians and then to the world, the National Film Board of Canada has long had a reputation as one of the world's most comprehensive sources for the production of outstanding documentaries and animation films."
Barry's Bulletin, February 2002
On the extensive NFB Web site, teachers can order award-winning videos and teaching kits on a wide range of topics—including media education. The topics are subdivided into categories such as "global media," "making media," "media violence" and "spin-doctors and tycoons."
The NFB site provides much food for thought for media students. For instance, in Media Sphere—an interactive section for secondary students—visitors can participate in a "Cyber-Terrorism" scenario that asks them to decide whether the Canadian government should impose the Emergencies Act in response to electronic terrorism. In order to help them make this decision, students review historical precedents and examine the perspectives of a citizen, a hacker, and the prime minister.
