PROFILE

Ontario Press Council

The Ontario Press Council is a voluntary association of Ontario newspapers devoted to bettering the image of the press in Ontario by adjudicating complaints from the public, and by defending freedom of the press in the public interest.

The Ontario Press Council subscribes to the ethical guidelines approved by the Associated Press Managing Editors in October 1994.

Complainants are encouraged to give newspapers an opportunity to redress complaints before writing to the Press Council. The decisions of the Ontario Press Council represent a consensus of opinions from journalists and the community at large. Council members include the Chair, representatives of the general public, and members drawn from contributing papers.
